Orissa legislator Jagabandhu Majhi of the ruling Biju Janata Dal ( BJD) and his personal security officer were Saturday shot dead by unidentified men in the state's Maoist-hit Nabrangpur district, police said.Jagabandhu Majhi, an MLA from Umerkote in Orissa, has been shot dead by supposed Maoists.Majhi belonged to the ruling Biju Janata Dal. He was assisting a public gathering beside Rajghar.
His personal security officer was also killed. Majhi was distributing plots to landless farmers.
The Umarkot legislator was attending a public function at Gona village in the district, over 500 km from here.
"Three people came on motorcycles and opened fire at the legislator," District Superintendent of Police Nitin Sekhar said.
