Tamil Nadu Minister for Environment and Pollution Control and Minorities Welfare N Mariam Pitchai died in a road accident in Tiruvelangurichi, about 40 km from Tiruchirappalli in the wee hours of Monday, May 23.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Environment and Pollution Control and Minorities Welfare N Mariam Pitchai died in a road near Perambalur this morning.

Pitchai was on his way to Chennai from Tiruchi to take oath as member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly when the accident occurred.

The body of Pitchai has been brought to Madurai.

Pitchai, who was the councilor of Tiruchi corporation, had won from the Madurai west constituency defeating former Transport Minister K.N.Nehru in the April 13 Assembly elections.

Minister for Sports and Youth welfare NR Sivapathy was also injured when their vehicle collided with another moving ahead of their convoy while they were proceeding to Chennai af [...]
