    Dearness Allowance Hike to 7% | Dearness Allowance July 2011

    Central Government Dearness Allowance Hike to 7% In a bid to provide relief from high inflation the government has hiked the dearness allowance (DA) by a minimum of 7 per cent benefiting over 50 lakh central government employees and 38 lakh pensioners.The hike will be applicable from July 1 2011.


    Dearness allowance is revised twice a year, on January 1 and July 1.The relief comes on the back of high retail prices, as inflation has constantly been above the 9 per cent mark.


    Headline inflation based on movement in wholesale prices, was 9.78 per cent in August much above the comfort level of 5-6 per cent.Food inflation too was close to 9.5 per cent for the week ending September 03.

    EPW journalist bags Appan Menon award

    Srinivasan Ramani, a senior assistant editor with the journal Economic & Political Weekly (EPW), has bagged the Appan Menon memorial award for young journalists.

    Ramani, who is pursuing his PhD in international at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), won the prize for his coverage of India’s role in the emergence of Nepal’s new constitutional republic.

    The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, is presented by the Appan Menon memorial trust, in memory of the journalist who once anchored The World This Week on NDTV. Menon had earlier worked with The Hindu and Frontline as well as news agencies PTI and UNI.
