Fiorentina wanted Mulumbu deal

Fiorentina chairman Mario Cognigni has vented his frustration at missing out on a number of targets in the transfer window, including West Brom's Youssouf Mulumbu.

The Italian side were keen to strengthen their squad and identified Baggies midfielder Mulumbu as somebody who could come in and make an impact.

There were a number of other players on their wish-list but none arrived and, despite making a solid start to the season, Cognigni still has regrets.

"In the summer we considered Axel Witsel, Mulumbu and Arouca. For many reasons we could not take them," he told Corriere Fiorentina.

China To Suspend Some Military-To-Military Activities With U.S. Over Taiwan Arms Sale -- The Cable/Foreign Policy

The Chinese government has laid out a series of protest measures it will take in response to the Obama administration's decision to sell Taiwan a new $5.8 billion package of upgrades to its aging fleet of fighter jets.

"[Chinese officials] have indicated that they're going to suspend or to cancel or postpone a series of military-to-military engagements," a senior State Department official told reporters in New York following Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's Monday meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.
