Iraq Threatens To Break Military Links With US -- Financial Times

Baghdad is threatening to break its military relations with Washington at the end of this year and use private contractors to train its armed forces, as the two sides struggle to agree on terms that would see a small number of American troops remain in Iraq next year.

The two sides have agreed in principle that several thousand US troops should stay in Iraq in a training capacity after the official end of the American mission at the end of the year, but they have become bogged down over whether to grant US troops immunity from prosecution if they commit crimes.

Democracy Now! Occupy Wall Street Indigenous Day of Mourning Columbus Day

As the nation marked Columbus Day on Monday, indigenous groups led a rally at Occupy Wall Street exposing the history behind Christopher Columbus and the impact his "discovery" had on the Americas. "We're here to say that Columbus is not a day," said Roberto "Múcaro" Borrero of the United Confederation of Taíno People. "We're here to join with other people's voices in saying there needs to be an end to the cycle of colonialism and greed."

Group B: Republic of Ireland 2-1 Armenia

Richard Dunne was the Republic of Ireland's hero once again as his goal edged them past Armenia and into the Euro 2012 play-offs.
The Aston Villa defender, whose man-of-the-match defensive display in Russia last month helped to secure a point, ensured all three went Ireland's way in their final Group B game with a 60th-minute goal which cemented them in second place on a night when both sides had a man sent off.
Much of what could have gone the Republic's way before the break did so with the dangerous Armenians having keeper Roman Berezovsky sent off with just 26 minutes gone.
